About
Us
Welcome to the Tukwila Historical Society’s Web site. Tukwila has a rich and remarkable history just waiting to be discovered. We invite you to experience Tukwila’s diverse heritage by exploring the archival materials, various photos, interesting links, and other available information on this
site.
The Tukwila Historical Society was first founded by a group of local residents in 1975 with the purpose of preserving the area’s heritage. The Society was fully incorporated in 1988 and became a 501(c)3 tax exempt not-for-profit corporation in 1996. Amongst its most significance accomplishments is what many affectionately refer to as the Tukwila History Book. In 1991, with funding support from the City of Tukwila, the Society published a comprehensive history of Tukwila entitled
Tukwila – Community at the Crossroads written by Kay F. Reinartz. Copies are available for purchase at
Tukwila City
Hall, 6200 Southcenter Blvd., Tukwila, WA 98188, or by calling (206) 433-1800.
The origin of this Web site was partly inspired by
Tukwila’s 2008 Centennial celebration commemorating 100 years of phenomenal change while recognizing the immeasurable spirit of our people. None of this would have been possible without the avid support from the
City of
Tukwila, 4-Culture,
AKCHO, various other historic and cultural organizations as well as the enthusiastic assistance from our citizenry and members who greatly desire the accurate preservation of our local history.
The
society meets 7:00 pm, the third Thursday of each month at the George
Long Building unless otherwise indicated. Click on the links
for meeting agendas and minutes.
Thanks for visiting.
